It’s Me O’clock Somewhere
“You are not a vending machine.” -Brent Stromme
My guess is that your schedule is filled with responsibilities, deadlines and high expectations … from others. You’re called on to distribute and deliver day and night, sometimes at a moment’s notice.
I’m curious to know just how much time you’ve intentionally scheduled for (wait for it) … yourself. Well? How much? That’s what I thought.
While I often bristle at the popular notion and the stream of social media posts trumpeting “It’s not selfish to put yourself first today”, I also understand what’s behind that sentiment. People are tired. You’re probably tired.
Lots of giving, not enough living.
You are not a vending machine for other people to put in their coin request and you robotically and methodically deliver what they need.
You need to change your thinking for 2023.
Because responsibilities and deadlines and expectations placed on you will most likely be prevalent throughout your lifetime, there’s onething you must do to be at your best when your best is required:
Schedule yourself in. Call it “Me O’clock”.
Yo, what time is it? It’s Me O’clock! My time.
I have “Me O’clock” times strewn throughout my calendar because I can’t give what I don’t have. And if I want to make a difference, if I want to help others grow and succeed, I need to be filled so I have something to give.
So, I schedule in “Me O’clock” time … an hour or two here and there, sometimes a whole morning or day for personal development and personal refreshment. That way, I can give from a place of grace, not from a place of guilt.
It’s not rocket science. We just treat it like it is.
Stop it.
Now, because it’s Monday and because this song certainly came to your mind … enjoy!
