I swear I’m not a control freak. But for much of my life, while I understood this principle and knew it looked good on coffee mugs, t-shirts and posters, I just never adopted it. Cuz, well, I wanted to go fast. Like super-duper fast. That thinking has shifted, not because of age, but because of the results I get to see when I choose to “go together” with like-minded and like-hearted people. (yes, you can insert “old dog, new tricks”) I sure wish I had implemented this strategy earlier in my life, it would have not only saved me lots of heartache and money, but more importantly, it would have yielded incredible “we did it!” moments. While the end result of a product or project might look entirely different from how I had envisioned it, maybe that’s a blessing. People with different skillsets, views, angles and experiences who help bring an idea or service to fruition is generally better than what I could have done on my own. So, I now enjoy leveraging other people’s giftedness which allows me to focus on the things that I think I do pretty well and to let go of the things that possibly weigh me and the process down.
